This week's topic is the portrayal of female teenaged sexuality in Glee. The show has received a lot of criticism for its portrayal of female characters, particularly Terri and Quinn. Do you feel that extends to the portrayal of female sexuality, specifically the teenaged characters? Do you feel any of the characters acts as a mouthpiece for the writers, while others voice opinions the writers dislike?
So as to refresh your minds, here are the main 6 and a short overview of their views on sex:
Quinn - president of the celibacy club, refers to contraception as the C-word, thought that "Trust me" was a sensible birth control option, lost her virginity after drinking some wine coolers and became pregnant, has dated Finn and been involved with Puck.
Rachel - argues that the only way to deal with teen sexuality is to be prepared, and that girls want sex just as much as guys do, chose not to go through sex with Jesse, has dated Puck, Jesse and Finn.
Brittany - has made out with everyone in school and her perfect record is very important to her, thinks that sex isn't dating, made out with Kurt.
Santana - broke up with Puck over his poor credit score, but seems attached to him still, her sexts are too hot to erase, agrees that sex isn't dating, had sex with Finn.
Mercedes - dated Puck because his arms are really nice, with the knowledge that he was using her to boost his popularity, crushed on the Mayor of Gaytown, can't wait to have a guy mad at her for saying no.
Tina - her eyes are up here! get out of her grill! she has kissed Artie numerous times and he has full use of his penis.
We would like to foster discussion, so choose and pick one character out of these 6 to talk about in depth, and respond to others who have done the same for other characters. Don't be afraid to talk to each other, but please be respectful of opposing opinions. :) Always try to see where the other person is coming from.
Okay, have fun!
